Column 2: method

index

Open data, followed all the way down to one person inside it.

Every piece here starts with a public dataset and ends with a story. The numbers can be checked: any figure set in mono opens its own evidence in a column to the right, so you never have to leave the sentence you are reading to find out whether it is true.

method

The same four layers in every piece, always in this order. Only the data changes — and the shape of the opening, which is chosen by the shape of the data rather than by taste.

01FindingsReal analysis of public data. The pipeline is linked, the source is named, and every calculation can be re-run from zero.
02The bridgeA plain table: which finding forced which narrative decision. This is the layer that separates data as a foundation from data as decoration.
03The storyStands on its own as fiction. No charts, no explanation, no moral stapled to the end.
04EvidenceAny figure set in mono opens its own column to the right — the underlying value, the table, the file — without leaving the sentence.

one typographic rule

Everywhere on this site, a figure set in mono is traceable to a source file. Text set in serif was written. There are no exceptions, including inside the fiction — so a sentence can be read at once as literature and as a checkable claim.
